Every Autumn we plan catamaran an Offshore Sailing trip from Sardinia to the Canary Islands. There is our base Saint Miguel de Abone on Tenerife. On Tenerife, our catamaran Lagoon 42 - JANNY is available there for 16 weeks for charter and catamaran docking – maneuver training. Middle of October, our offshore journey goes from Sardinia to Mallorca, Gibraltar, Madeira and Tenerife. These catamaran offshore cruises can be booked online. Beginners, as well as experienced sailor can join us.
The end of March, the 42nd JANNY will return its journey to Cagliari on Sardinia.
Catamaran Offshore sailing is a necessary evil, when a new Catamaran is delivered to its final Charter base. The Owner and/or charter companies use professional sailors to transport the Brand New catamarans to its final destination. Sailing guests, joining such transfers, are not allowed to operate the sailing operation. They are just passengers, forced to watch and are asked to participate in the fuel costs.
Our Catamaran journeys are completely different: For our Offshore guests the journey should become adventure trips. Our guests will be involved in planning and operation of the event. Thus, weather data, routes, schedules, guards etc. are discussed with the entire crew. The crew will learn how to operate the sails, how to plan our journey, navigate our catamaran, and participate in night guards. When the weather and schedule permit, we will learn our guests the first stages in operating - controlling catamaran maneuver, using both engines. Port maneuvers will be practiced.
In addition to owner Jos, the crossings are also supervised by experienced skipper Peter.
Our Offshore catamaran sailing trips are challenging. Sailing every week 350 to 630 nm. That means exact planning of the routes, with integration of the weather data. Sailing 2 to 5 Nights is common, to achieve are millage for the week. The complete crew will be introduced to the planning, and together they will decide how best to master the route. Time to relax is just as important as our night sailing. Local attractions, city visits, pots, marinas, bays are not excluded. Whenever weather and schedule permit, the offshore sailing guests will learn more about the basic principles of catamaran sailing, docking and maneuvering. The crew can gain their first experiences controlling our catamaran using both engines. These maneuvers are standardly executed in the first 2 days our catamaran training week program.
Our catamaran sailing trips are the opposite of being boring. Each sailor can actively operate lines, sails, reefing, anchor, steer. Starting sailors will learn a lot before the week is over. The owner and our professional skippers are available answering all questions on sailing, servicing, buying, operating a catamaran. All previous crew members were surprised as to which extend, they got acquainting to catamaran sailing. Some have already booked their next trip or have signed up for a complete catamaran training week. As a reward, all guests get a very nice signed - nautical miles confirmation. It describes your activities during the ocean sailing cruise, and is useful for your prospective future sailing licence or future catamaran charter booking.
